F spies and the military too. As long as our system allows our politicians to personally profit from every gun sold and every bomb sold or dropped, mass shootings, terrorism & wars will be inevitable. #getALLmoneyOut #EndCitizensUnited #DEMEXIT #StillSandersPlatform Bring them ALL home! The world should unite to (peacefully) demand the US to close all 1,000+ non US soil military bases and ops in 135+ countries and also demand the end of US international weapons sales and supply, often to both sides of conflicts for blood money profit, as well as demand the US ends their nuclear weapons program too in what would be a giant leap towards world peace (they’ve already threatened to preemptively nuke N Korea, Iran and all hurricanes). We could/should also end world hunger with but a portion of the savings.

@Mr. Pete Channel needs 900 subbies! while they are cheaper than space x on paper however Falcon 9 has an expendable pay load of 22,800kg meaning SpaceX will not reuse the rocket. And has a reusable payload of 15,600kg in to LEO. IRSO’s most comparable rocket the GSLV MK III has a payload capacity of 10,000kg to LEO And has a cost per launch of 51 million USD where as falcon 9 reused cost per launch is 50 million USD so in reality SpaceX is cheaper and while IRSO do have cheaper rockets they all have a payload capacity far lower than falcon 9

@Nature and Physics aiming to reuse as much of the rocket as is possible but also aiming to be a lot cheaper to In comparison falcon heavy costs normally $90 million per launch and $150 per launch if falcon heavy carries its maximum payload due to it being unable to be reused if it carries its maximum payload however delta IV heavy is $330 million per launch normally however ULA for some reason charges National Reconnaissance Office $440 million per launch

Where does United Launch Alliance land the side boosters?
Nick H
Nick H 11 ditë më parë
@My3dviews You're right. Not to mention, in theory, at 75% payload, a reusable system would need more than 5 launches for every 4 throwaway launches - so consider the cost of an extra launch 25% of the time! I think SpaceX are doing things cheaper, but that has a lot more to do with it being a private company instead of a bloated government bureaucracy that has a lot more to do than just launch satellites.
My3dviews
My3dviews 11 ditë më parë
@Dan . I've seen estimates that a reusable rocket only can lift about 70 to 75% as much into orbit. So, the money that you say is wasted on throwing the booster away goes to getting a larger payload into orbit. For small payloads that is not a problem. But this was a large payload, so required a larger rocket to lift it into orbit.
Dan
Dan 11 ditë më parë
@My3dviews It is too bad if it limits payload. Wasting millions of our dollars by throwing away most of the rocket every time is just bad business.
My3dviews
My3dviews 11 ditë më parë
Landing the booster means not as large a payload can get to orbit, since you need to carry extra fuel to land. As well as grid fins and landing legs, all extra weight that limits the payload.

You guys are trying to be cute, OK. *BUT: HOH in the upper atmosphere is actually a serious problem.* Water vapor is a greenhouse gas. That's what causes the run-away effect. C=O=C and CH4 act as control amplifiers of H-O-H concentration. Water vapor absorbs photon energy fantastically well. It has many molecular bending modes which increase temperature. Rayleigh scattering is a similar effect. Dumping water vapor in certain atmospheric zones where it normally doesn't populate is no joke. It's the equivalent of many more tonnes of CO2. Or a fair bit less of methane. Check some Atmospheric Science papers. NASA is a good place to start.

@Bruc3 L33 Why would the time duration have to be the same??? Yeah, I know, I worked for NASA, it was a generic statement as any actual direct comparisons are void of usefulness out of the gate. Theres no math in scope of this discussion. Its unfortunate you feel the need to flippantly and vaguely disparage in one sentence the work of thousands of people. I will never understand why most people, including yourself can't just appreciate things SpaceX has done, but instead focus on attacking. Reusing rockets seems like a great idea, but not really any giant leap forward in my opinion, and frankly it hasn't really happened to any degree to be something to hang a hat on yet. I imagine we are 10-20 years away from that.

@Bruc3 L33 The "Private Model" Problem: Only small steps with Quarterly dividend timescales will ever be possible. No big leaps: space elevators, laser propulsion, Ion drives, space-time bubbles, ect. Sure, reusability is a nice incremental step. But it won't revolutionize. That's why we need NASA/JPL and the Researchers. Everyone else are just contractors. NASA is the architect. (Btw: Boeing was slowed in no small part by Congress. Redistributing funding OUT of ISS Capsule program, since 2011. And into L.L.. Also, NASA has been coddling SpaceX like a little child. Giving $Billions of taxpayer $$$ and resources. Like EXCLUSIVE use of Saturn 5 launch facilities. EXCLUDING other companies, and slowing them down. NASA has been anything but neutral in its building of SpaceX into the company it is today.)

@ruse mode sounds like a joke, what is China spying on? What is the US spying on? Each other, "say the aliens pointing their latest bomb at earth"

@ruse mode This launch was a spy satellite for DOD. (But Shhhh!) [Targeting, target selection, data gathering of economic, infrastructure, and military activities... Would be my guess for this 🛰].

Well, i mean 🇨🇳 has a new space plane... So i guess spying on them is a priority. But i agree 100% our telescopes should be pointing *OUTWARD* to the Universe. So says I and my Tax dollars.

@Bruc3 L33 There's never going to be a human colony on Mars. Or the Moon. So reusability for human visitation to those 2 balls will be few and far between. Maybe we will have a robot colony, or avatars, but no chance for sustained human colony. Not without substantial genetic alterations, to the extent of being "Post-human" organisms. That said, reusability for LEO and >LEO is great. That's commercial zone, and leads to more company profits. Also, for any missions out of Earth atmosphere, like probes: if reusability can be accomplished... That could lead to more missions. And I'm all for it.

@One by Land, Two if by Sea Run if by Air If by reusability you mean the space shuttle, then they were still tossing 3/4's of the space craft into the ocean, obviously that didn't save them any money. Plus I'm very much aware of the boosters requiring fuel to land, which is built into the design when referring to Delta V. At the end of the day, a fully reusable launch system is the future, even if it requires a seperate launch for refueling before exiting earth orbit. NASA needs to wake up and smell the coffee, the tech that worked in the early days of space travel isn't going to cut it when it comes to anything beyond the moon.

@Bruc3 L33 It's not that simple. NASA has been using reusable since April 12, 1981. It didn't save much money, to say the least. Every kg of fuel needed for landing steals from velocity. You can't do anything about that. For high Earth atmosphere work like ISS and other satellites, reusability is another matter. Hopefully SpaceX first true space mission, Psyche in 2022, will go well. That's scheduled on a Falcon9 Heavy. The Moon and reusability is a bit more complicated. So is Parker Solar Probe speeds. That is currently ULA territory. Reusability wouldn't have worked there.
